Twitter社へのxAuth利用申請

iOS App開発 Twitter

iPhone Appからtweetを送ったりキーワードでtweetを検索したりする機能を実装することになった。この機能を実装するためにTwitterアプリケーションを登録しxAuth利用申請を行った。手続きの大まかな内容をメモしておく。

Twitterアプリケーションの登録

iPhone AppからTwitter APIを使用するために、まずは「Twitterアプリケーション」を登録しなければならない。TwitterアプリケーションとはTwitter APIを利用するアプリケーションやWebサービスの総称である。つまり、今回は作成するiPhone AppをTwitterアプリケーションとして登録すればよい。

Twitterアプリケーションを登録するためにはTwitterアカウントが必要となる。そのアカウントでTwitterにログインし、「アプリケーション登録申請」のページ（http://dev.twitter.com/apps/new）を開く。申請対象のアプリケーションに関する情報をこの登録申請ページのフォームに記入する。今回はiPhone Appの中からtweetを送信したり検索したりするので、アプリケーションの種類には「クライアントアプリケーション」を、標準のアクセスタイプには「Read & Write」を指定しておく。画面下部の「アプリケーションを登録する」ボタンを押下するとアプリケーションの登録は完了する。登録した情報は後から変更することもできる。

登録したTwitterアプリケーションはアプリケーション一覧のページ（http://dev.twitter.com/apps）に表示される。また、個々のTwitterアプリケーションには専用のページ（http://dev.twitter.com/apps/[Application ID]）がある。

xAuth利用申請

Twitterアプリケーションは作成時にはxAuthによるアクセスが許可されていない。xAuthによるアクセスを可能にするためには、api@twitter.com 宛に利用申請のメールを送信して、Twitter社から許可を得なければならない。申請者とTwitterのメールのやりとりの内容を以下に示す。

Hello.


My name is [申請者名]. My twitter id is @[申請者のTwitterアカウント].


I'm developing "[申請対象アプリケーションの名前]", an iPhone App for ... (アプリケーションの主な目的).
Target platform is iPhone. Version is 3.1.3 and later.
Please permit the access to xAuth from my application.

最初のメールでは次の点を簡単に記載した。

  • 申請者名
  • 申請者のTwitterアカウント
  • Twitterアプリケーションの名前
  • Twitterアプリケーションの主な目的（1文で簡潔に）
  • Twitterアプリケーションの対象プラットフォームとバージョン(今回はiOS Ver.3.1.3以降)
  • TwitterアプリケーションのページのURL
  • Twitterアプリケーションのスクリーンショット（添付ファイル）


Twitterからのメール1

約9時間半後にTwitter社の担当者から次のようなメールが届いた。

Hi [申請者名],


Thank you for writing in. In order to review your application for xAuth access, we need some more information about your application, including its user-facing Twitter functionality, a link to its website and a screenshot of it in action. Our ticketing system does not accept attachments, so please upload the screenshot to your server or an image host instead.

このメールでの指摘・要求は

  • アプリケーションについてのより詳細な情報を記載してほしい。
  • スクリーンショットはメールに添付するのではなくサーバにアップロードしなければならない。

の2点である。

申請者からのメール2

そこで、自社のWebサーバにスクリーンショットをアップロードし、返信メールにはそのURLを記載した。また、アプリケーションはリリース前なので公式発表されている情報はないと断った上で、アプリケーションの目的、提供する機能、ユーザの操作内容等について少し詳しい説明をこのメールに記述した。念のためにxAuthアクセスの必要性も強調しておいた。

My application is designed to ... (アプリケーションの詳細な内容)


There is no information about my application on Apple's App Store and on my web pages now because it is not released yet. I want to release it after finishing implementation of tweet function with xAuth and refining usability. I tried to use OAuth at first, but it needs too many steps to access to Twitter. I would like to use xAuth in order to improve usability and make my application more user-friendly.
